About gems clarity

We do not hide inclusions. We show them!

We always try to show critical inclusions in photos and videos, or indicate in the description. In particular, we indicate whether inclusions are visible to the naked eye and how they affect for the stone beauty.

We use the GIA (Gemological Institute of America) Clarity Chart for Colored Gemstones in grading of our stones clarity. There are three types (groups) of gemstones:

Type 1 - gemstones that are normally found to be clean;

aquamarine, morganite, yellow beryl, chrysoberyl, kunzite, danburite, smoky quartz, imperial topaz, blue topaz, blue zircon, white zircon, tanzanite.

Type 2 - gemstones by their nature have natural inclusions:

apatite, alexandrite, corundum (ruby and sapphire), diopside, fluorite, garnet, iolite, peridot, most of quartz varieties (such as amethyst and ametrine), spinel, most tourmaline colors (including of green, rubellite and watermelon tourmaline),  zircon (red, yellow and orange).

Type 3 - gemstones by their nature have many natural inclusions:

emerald, red beryl, idocrase, benitoite, kyanite, prehnite, sphalerite, sphene, watermelon and rubellite tourmaline.

Noticeable inclusions under 10X. May be eye visible.

Obvious inclusions with 10X. May be eye visible.

SI1

Easily noticeable with 10X. Slightly visible to the unaided eye. Usually low relief.

Obvious inclusions, large or numerous under 10X. Apparent to unaided eye.

Prominent to unaided eye.

SI2

Easily visible to the unaided eye. Usually low relief.

Obvious inclusions, large or numerous under 10X. Very apparent to unaided eye.

Very prominent to unaided eye.
